Impact Stories

Eradicating Substance Abuse and Addiction in the Slums of Mumbai

“In the nascent stages of our work in the slums of South Mumbai, substance abuse & addiction were found to be the dominant issues plaguing the underprivileged families. A large section of the youth fell prey to various forms of substance abuse. When confronted with the rampant spread of this menace, we realised that there was a bigger challenge at hand.

The fact that none of us were experts in tackling such a complex issue didn’t deter our resolve the faintest, in fact, we promptly began with awareness drives and counselling initiatives to foster a holistic approach in the community. The afflicted youngsters committed themselves to altering their lifestyle and gradually worked upon healthier habits, better food choices and exercise routines. Bearing witness to this transformation uplifted our spirits to no end.

Over the years we have seen people with modest means triumph over insurmountable odds with sheer dedication and submission to the process of reformation. Faces that were once clouded with misery now beam with immense joy. It’s a sign that we have had encouraging progress in remedying these concerns. We want to persist on this journey of hope and change.
